This text is based on a presentation, centered in an open and public reflection on what the desert has contributed to me, as a theme, scene and habitat in my training as a historian, specially in my training as a colonialist historian in Nueva Galicia, and afterward as a scholar of the native and colonizer population of the Californias central area from the late eighteenth century to late nineteenth century. But it is also a reflection on how academic training colonizes us as Social Sciences researchers, as well as the power centers from the same Academia, especially in the Mexican case.
