This article will weave together personal aspects of the life of the Franco-German ethnologist Ursula Hedi Chemin Bassler, in the manner of a petate, with data on her research career, highlighting the main contributions she made to the field of Mexican ethnology in the 20th century, specifically in the field of study of the Xi'úi (Pame) indigenous people who inhabit the municipalities of Ciudad del Maíz, Alaquines, Tamasopo, Rayón and Santa Catarina, located in the middle zone of the state of San Luis Potosí.
