(I) Yucatán is one of the states with the highest rate of suicide in Mexico. The way in which the press deals with the topic, as well as how readers react to them, give clues to the interpretative frameworks of this phenomenon in society. This article offers an analysis of the interaction between journalistic stories about suicide and their readers. (M) A content analysis was applied to 589 Facebook comments from six journalistic articles published between 2020 and 2021. (R) As a result, it was found that readers recognize multiple possible causes, among which they identify those of a psychological, political, family, economic, work and cultural; However, each of these elements is generally seen in isolation and very rarely is an interrelationship between them shown. The causes attributed to them are not distributed equally in men and women. (C) It is concluded that for readers, education and spirituality are the main frameworks to understand and prevent suicide, for which they demand more attention from public policies towards the phenomenon.
