In this work, we observe the evolution of the prevalence of suicide in Yucatán in the last 33 years and compare it with that of other Mexican states. We present a conceptual framework for transitioning from ideation to action. (M) We analyze documentary information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) on the annual incidence of suicide between 1990 and 2023 and contrast it with other indicators of violence. (R) We found that the yearly incidence of suicide grew slowly in the state of Yucatán between 1990 and 2000 and then grew abruptly starting in 2020. This increase closely fits a linear function with a slope close to 7. We found no relationship between the rise in suicide and neither with the economic crises nor with the gross domestic product. (C) If current conditions do not change, the incidence of suicide in Yucatán will continue to thrive despite the low crime rate in the state. More research and better public policies are required.
Passwords: Suicide rate; Suicide risk; Suicide prevalence; Time course of suicide prevalence; Suicide risk factors; Suicide risk prevention strategies; Suicide risk assessment.
